Join our team of passionate volunteers! We are seeking volunteer board member applicants who are looking to put their passion to work and serve others in our communities.

Why Join?

Kickin’ Cancer is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and a subsidiary of the Redwood Area Communities Foundation. Our mission is to provide assistance to cancer patients with funds raised and distributed locally throughout Redwood County.

Board

Being residents of Redwood County and knowing firsthand the difficulties that cancer can bring to your life, beyond the treatments, we raise money locally and spend it locally. The hard truth is that everyone's life has been touched by cancer in some shape or form. We want to assist our friends and neighbors as they go through this battle. We want our neighbors to know that they are not alone in this fight. 

Board Purpose

By agreeing to become a board member for Kickin’ Cancer, you are agreeing to make decisions that look out for the best interests of the organization and those we serve.

Time Commitment

2 Year Commitment, Option to Renew for 3 Consecutive Terms

Board Responsibilities

  1. Approve and monitor annual budgets.
  2. Determining the mission of the organization and understanding its collective purpose
  3. Fundraising and resource development
  4. Approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
  5. Enhancing the organization’s public image
  6. Agree to a two-year board term with the option of renewal for three consecutive terms.

Meetings

Board meetings are held 2-3 times a year; once in the fall after our main fundraising event, once in the winter and once prior to the main fundraising event. Additional meetings may be called as needed.

Board members are invited to attend meetings in person. Meetings are typically held at the Thrivent office in Redwood Falls. 

Structure

The board of directors has 9 board members including a chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer. There are also a number of board committees, Team Leads and volunteers that assist in bringing the board direction to fruition. Team Leads and volunteers are valued members of the team but are not board members. 

Expectations

Board members are expected to attend meetings adequately prepared, communicate openly and respectfully, and support the Chair’s efforts to facilitate an orderly meeting. Board members are expected to participate at the annual fundraising event as well.

The Kickin’ Cancer Board is an exciting and engaged working board. Board members are required to participate in a minimum of 2 board meetings per year. Work hours of commitment would probably vary between 3-5 hours per year. Board members are also encouraged to participate in fundraising and development activities, which include an annual Kickin’ Cancer Event held each summer. Board members are expected to commit to the role for a minimum of a two year term with the option to renew for 3 complete terms.
